March 16, 2024
Organized by
Department of Chemistry
(Autonomous)
University of Mumbai
In Collaboration with
Society for Industrial Chemistry, Mumbai
Department of Chemistry extends a very warm welcome to the
scientists, researchers, academicians, students, professionals, and
industry personnel to participate in one-day national conference on
‘Advances in Polymer Science and Technology (APST-2024)’
on March 16, 2024 in collaboration with Society for Industrial
Chemistry, Mumbai. Academic and Industrial deliberations
would be from eminent scientists and experts. The focus of the
scientific sessions will be on the emerging trends in polymer
sciences.
OBJECTIVES AND SCOPE OF THE CONFERENCE:
Natural Polymers have been used since prehistoric times and have
been modified and processed empirically over many centuries for
wide varieties of applications e.g. Papyrus. However society
ushered into ‘Polymer Age’ with the invention of ‘Bakelite’ the
first synthetic polymer. As the future unfolds, plastics and other
synthetic polymers will play increasingly versatile roles in
medicine, electronics, aerospace and advanced structural
composites. New products will be manufactured and molded all
over the world. The importance of polymer science and technology
is expected to grow even in future. The challenges that lie is
controlling new molecular architecture are still many. We need to
define and respond to world needs and to improve communication
and learning in this subject area. This conference aims to enhance
us to formulate future strategies and activities in order to share and
exchange ideas across the polymer community, by providing a
valuable forum to polymer science organizations. We hope that this
conference will foster new ideas and concepts which will be an
impetus for progressive research in the field of Polymer Science
and Technology. The conference will cover following areas;
Polymer Synthesis, Characterization and Modifications
Rheology and Polymer Processing
Polymer Blends and Alloys
Biopolymers and Bio-compatible Polymers
Polymer in Medicinal Applications
Polymer in Pharmaceuticals
Polymer Recycling and Sustainability
Polymer Degradation and Stability
Shape Memorable Polymers
Polymeric Nanomaterials and Nanocomposites
Polymer-Supported Organic Reactions
Inorganic Polymers
Theoretical Aspects of Polymer Sciences
Materials Chemistry

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENT OF
CHEMISTRY
The University Department of Chemistry, University of Mumbai,
established in the year 1967, conducts two-year post-graduate
courses and Ph. D. degrees in Organic, Inorganic, Physical,
Analytical and Industrial Polymer Chemistry. The Department has
been granted autonomous status from the academic year
2009−2010.
The Department has many research projects from the various
national and international funding agencies like UGC−UPE,
DST−PURSE and DST-FIST etc.
ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF MUMBAI
The University of Mumbai (known earlier as University of
Bombay) is one of the oldest and premier Universities in India. It
was established in 1857 consequent upon “Wood’s Education
Dispatch”, and it is one amongst the first three Universities in
India.
The profile of this University carved out in 150 years of its
functioning attests to its manifold achievements as the intellectual
and moral powerhouse of society. The University has always given
its best to the country in general and to the city of Mumbai in
particular by enthusiastically shouldering an ever-growing load of
social values and opportunities.
The University has two campuses of area 230 acres and 13 acres,
with 1.25 million square feet of built-up area, 22 thousand sq. feet
of classrooms and 84 thousand sq feet of laboratory space. It has
two post-graduate centers, 850 affiliated colleges and 58
Departments. It has established its name in industrial
collaborations and runs various professional courses. Recently
University is accredited A++ grade (Grade I) with CGPA of 3.65.
ABOUT SOCIETY FOR INDUSTRIAL CHEMISTRY
Society for Industrial Chemistry was established in 2015 to bring
together researchers from industries, academia, and other
technology driven enterprises for sharing of knowledge in diverse
area relevant to Indian Industry. Since its inception the society has
organized a series of seminars in many areas, such as
Characterization of materials, Performance chemicals in paints,
Architectural coatings, Pharmaceuticals, Specialty Chemicals.
Currently, we have around 200 life members, covering a broad
spectrum of scientific community. The society has the goal of
increasing the base to encompass more personnel from industries,
academics and research institutions.
